Bouncing Back! Percussion & Dance for EYFS & KS1

2022 has begun with a blast of creative excitement for young learners in Nottingham’s schools, as the next phase of our Early Years and KS1 percussion and dance project kicks off.

Throughout the rest of the school year, children in five schools will be taking part in a series of creative sessions, where we’ll be exploring aspects of music-making and creative movement through the genre of global percussion and dance.

We have a fantastic team delivering our Arts Council England supported project, Bouncing Back. Choreographer and dancer, Tamita Itara Mason, is leading our dance programme, and our in-house percussionist, Jude Winwood, is the main project coordinator and percussionist. Workshops are thoughtfully planned with the main aim to boost children’s mental and emotional wellbeing during the challenging times of the ongoing pandemic.

Sessions are also providing opportunities for children to discover technical aspects of music, such as tempo, volume and pitch, as well as what different movements bodies can do in order to create dance.

Each school is bringing their workshop programme to an exciting end with a performance of new skills and experiences to parents and carers. Feedback has been outstanding and we want to thank all of the children and teachers involved in making Bouncing Back a great success!
