Local Connections Fund Award

In March 2021, we were honoured to receive an award of funding support from the new Local Connections Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund. We quickly planned our school half term online activities for children and families, and started to let local partners in Nottingham know of what was to be on offer.

We planned a fun-filled half term week of online participatory creative workshops and also a series of talks on mental health, mindfulness, and anxiety issues surrounding children heading back to school (for both parents/carers and children!)

Into our growing Facebook family community, Connect & Create, we welcomed a wonderful variety of workshop leaders to inspire and entertain children during the current national lockdown. Covid didnt stop us from having fun and connecting online!

Families enjoyed a series of workshops in the following genres:

  • Bhangra dance

  • West African dance

  • Storytelling & creative movement

  • Fun Drawing

  • Mindfulness and meditation

  • A celebration concert with Johnny & The Raindrops

  • Zumba for kids

  • Drama & acting

  • Story time

  • Tips on home schooling and reducing stress & anxiety

  • Poetry

  • Early Years music making

  • Family hand drumming & singing with loads of play props & soft toys!

A great time was had by all, and attendees were great at leaving feedback in the comments to help us make things better for their enjoyment and interactive online experience.
